
For the past couple of years we have been pleased to accept an applicant from a local school and provide them with a week or two’s work experience.
When we initially decided to do this we wanted it to be meaningful for the candidate; an experience that would give them a real insight into what we do. We devised a small project and different members of our staff coach candidates with the theory of heat loss, pipe sizing, lighting calculations and equipment selections for a building.
Every day they work on a different aspect of the services design. They do some CAD work, use software packages such as Hevacomp, Relux, Dialux and schedule out their equipment selections. The break up the office work, we take them to see a number of sites where we are working…some finished, others in progress and they can sit in on meetings and discuss their projects with our engineers. We also give them a realistic idea of salary expectations.
The feedback we have received has been very positive to date.
