When the first person learned how to control fire and brought it into his cave he adapted his building to make a more comfortable space. Modern M&E engineers must have inherited their DNA from this person but we have evolved into chefs and what we do now is:
We bake cakes!
We take a client’s brief, translate into engineering language with numbers, values, and targets , then imagine how it can be best be delivered into the proposed building, use our knowledge of products to pick the best ones that the project can afford, put these ingredients into the building mould, mixing them in the right proportions to deliver the desired outcome. We then stir the mix until the architects and structural engineers are happy with the overall consistency and finally allow the contractors to cook it for the required time to meet the programme. Once cooked and allowed to cool for a while there is usually a need to make some small modifications to optimise the appearance and taste. Finally, the client moves in and consumes it.
Of course, sometimes we don’t get to bake our own cakes but simply write recipes for other people to make cakes or are engaged to find out what went wrong with other people’s cakes or how to improve them. But that’s another storey…….please contact us if you would like to learn about it.

We deliver projects using the mixed experience of our team with an initial focus group analysing what the key objectives are for a project and agreeing the most appropriate solutions for achieving them.
We work with other design team members to consider the impacts that orientation, fenestration and structural mass will have on the need for mechanical solutions or to establish if adjustments could allow passive solutions.
We develop scheme proposals based on the outcomes of these early discussions and review them regularly. Potential problem areas are put under the microscope and flagged up to the team so that collaborative solutions can be evolve during the design stage. The solutions are worked through for inclusion in tender packages so that risk to contractors is minimised and clients can obtain the most competitive prices because everyone understands that risk to them is minimal.
We use Hevacomp and IES software for establishing heating and cooling loads in buildings and as the basis for SBEM modelling calculations and EPC Certificates for Building Regulation, Part L compliance.
Hevacomp and Amtech are used for electrical distribution calculations. We use Relux and Dialux software for lighting / daylighting / external calculations and modelling when necessary for complex areas.
All staff are encouraged to develop their skills and to keep up to date through regular CPD training with seminars provided on specialist topics, attendance at CIBSE Regional CPD training sessions and other topical industry relevant subjects. Personal skill development is also encouraged where it can benefit the practice.
Worldwise is ISO 9001 : 2015 accredited, is registered with Constructionline, has SIPP health and safety Designer and Principle Designer competency via SMAS accreditation. Staff carry CSCS cards and some employees are CIBSE Low Carbon Design accredited in addition to their own technical qualification and institute memberships.
Autocad software is employed for the production of drawings.
Why Use Worldwise?
Why Use Mechanical & Electrical Consulting Engineers?
-
Holistic
Consulting engineers work with clients to develop an agreed brief with its project specific requirements against an informed background of current, pending and future legislation and best practice. This enables the consulting engineer to work collaboratively with the client and design team to deliver the optimum solution to meet the client’s goals whilst complying with necessary statutory obligations and possibly exceeding them to achieve an element of future- proofing.
The consulting engineer’s view is strategic and can provide flexibility and adaptability where required.
-
Value Engineering
This term is too often misused to mean simple cost-cutting. Consulting Engineers can provide true value engineering by proper consideration of the life cycle costs of installations, taking account of life expectancy, maintainability, and energy costs associated with different solutions to problems. They provide value engineering through the production of unambiguous reports and tender documentation; thereby reducing financial risk to others and ensuring that the most competitive tenders are received for works. Control of M&E services costs on projects can be provided by consulting engineers who are uniquely positioned to understand what has been provided for the money.
-
Independent
Consulting engineers sell their talents and experience. They are not selling products and do not have any financial interests in the products they specify. They offer impartial advice that is not influenced by financial inducement.
-
Co-ordinated
Soundly considered concepts can be developed to detailed design level in conjunction with other design team members so that everyone has a clear understanding of what is to be installed before work commences on site. This reduces the potential for delays and conflicts on site with the associated risk of escalating costs, delays, abortive work and, inevitably: compromise.
-
Quality
Technical qualifications, professional integrity and years of experience are factors that contribute to assure quality performance by consulting engineers. As members of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) we are bound by a strict code of conduct and committed to delivering the highest standards of ethics ad professionalism.
Experience and knowledge of standards enable consulting engineers to assess the quality of installations on site.
