This project comprised the provision of a 1,100m-sq warehouse extension to the main print works.

Worldwise were engaged to undertake the detailed design and construction management of the services provision to the new extension.

A requirement of this project was for quality lighting on the vertical face of every rack and for racking to be moveable along a track.  Excellent colour rendition was important to the client for ease of recognition of various paper and card stores.  A reasonably even temperature gradient over the full height of the warehouse was also important to the client to help avoid distortion of paper due to changes in temperature and humidity when moved around the building and into the main print works.

The lighting brief was met with linear fluorescent low bay luminaires using colour corrected lamps.  This was also introduced to the existing 1,120m2 warehouse and vehicle store to suit new racking layouts being deployed.  A dedicated LPHW system employing unit heaters mounted at high level was installed along with automatic destratification fans to meet the client’s goals and to prevent excessive heat losses through the roof.  A new analogue addressable fire alarm system was installed for the warehouse and the original fire alarm panel replaced.  The intruder alarm system was extended to protect the new warehouse.  A smoke ventilation system was installed with a manual override switch provided to improve summertime temperatures within the structure by opening the smoke vents to increase natural ventilation through the building.
