Jigsaw Building, Women’s Health, Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
New build 2,500m2 building for women’s health including outpatient clinics, treatment rooms for haematology, breast care, treatment rooms for urogynae and colposcopy, ultrasound, mammography and recliner bays. Project included site clearance and diversions of district heating, water, medical gas mains and sewage pumping station. Upgrading the power supply network, essential and non-essential was undertaken. The provision of 92 kWp PV arrays were considered as part of the BREEAM Excellent target but this was later omitted when the target was downgraded to Very Good for other reasons. A Low Energy Feasibility study was undertaken to assess energy sources.
Worldwise role: The building uses heat from the district main that is 70% waste heat from the on-site incinerator. Ceiling mounted radiant heating panels are used generally for heating with local temperature adjustment. LED lighting with photocell and absence detection control is widely utilised. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, LPHW heating and DX coil heat pump cooling is used where close environment control is required.
Services provision included medical air, vacuum, oxygen, dirty extract, general ventilation, theatre ventilation, domestic water, heating (via radiators/radiant panels, BMS including head end modifications, utilities, wet riser, lighting, power, fire alarm, bedhead services, communications services and pneumatic tube systems.
