New Kitchen and Dining Room

An unused space beneath the church was transformed into a new dining hall for this independent girls school to serve both the preparatory and senior schools on the campus. An extension to the listed building was erected to house a new dining room complete with servery, automatic dish washing and tray handling facilities.

Minor adaptations to the plenum heating system were made for the dining room whilst a dedicated boiler house for heating and hot water production was provided for the kitchen functions. A new LPG farm was provided within the contract to serve not just the kitchen but the swimming pool water heating plant and a number of other areas also. Mechanical supply and extract ventilation of the kitchen was provided with interfaces to an emergency gas shut-off and sensing controls package. Water softening for the dishwasher and hot water system was included also. Toilets, changing rooms and a small teaching space were included in the scheme.

The full range of electrical lighting, fire alarm and power services was provided for all areas.

The contract was let for the mechanical and electrical works as a design and build contract. Worldwise were engaged to vet received tenders, make recommendations for financial and technical controls on the M&E elements of the contract and to interface between the catering equipment specialist and the M&E specialist sub-contractors. Monitoring the quality of installations and assisting with a number of Building Regulation matters also fell to Worldwise to address.
