This project comprised the removal of a tired toilet block and the provision of a new welcome centre for visitors to Upton Country Park. As a part Lottery funded project, it provided a learning space for visitors to gain an understanding of the unique site and its location with boundaries onto Poole Harbour.
A high quality, robust building was designed using local materials where possible. Underfloor heating and domestic hot water for toilets were generated using air source heat pump and LED lighting design to compliment the design have movement sensors to control them in the toilets and photocell controls to work with the large glazed areas and Sunpipes in the roof.
A living green roof was part of the BREEAM Very Good requirement and other planting required an automatic irrigation system to be designed by Worldwise with necessary Cat 5 break tank and sub-metering provisions for Water Regulation compliance.
Building mounted external lighting design and fitting selection needed to take account of local bat activity. Worldwise worked with a specialist dog wash provider to ensure that their facility could be kept going throughout the construction phase of the project and that an updated version could be designed into the new building.
