Working alongside Currie and Brown to deliver NEC3 Supervisor duties on the mechanical and electrical services systems, Worldwise were tasked with undertaking an M&E design review, materials suitability check, monitor installation standards and assessed commissioning proposals. We worked closely with the commissioning teams to monitor their progress, witness tests and commissioning, agree deviations from standards where necessary and record defects and snag items.
The building comprises 10,000m2 for healthcare, medical sciences, social care and social sciences learning including an MRI scanner, simulated wards, operating theatre, birthing suite, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and paramedic training areas+ 200 seat lecture theatre, library and seminar rooms.
Ground source heat pump provided the primary heat source with gas-fired boilers topping up at peak heating load periods. The heat pumps also worked with the cooling system and transferred heat from the building into the ground in warm weather months. A VAV system with occupancy control and inverter driven fans minimised ventilation loads. Extensive PV in provided on roofs. Occupancy and absence detection controls are employed to manage the lighting. The result is a building that achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. As handover of the building was taking place during COVID lockdown, there was minimal occupancy take up in the building. This led to complications with achieving and maintaining water quality in the building.
