Two independent buildings executed as a single contract the new 6th Form block comprised the conversion of a 1960’s single storey building into a two-storey unit dedicated to 6th Form students and including a Common Room, Study base, meeting rooms, offices, general classrooms and two IT Suites with a server room housing the Curriculum and Administration servers for the whole campus.
The Music/SEN building is a single storey structure that includes a fully BB93 compliant music classroom accommodating a large amount of electronic keyboards and computers, highlighting the convergence between IT and music. Departmental offices and small teaching spaces for SEN students are also provided.
A fully detailed design with full site visit duties was undertaken by Worldwise Limited.
Each building has a dedicated LPHW boiler plant for heating. The small hot water demand is met using local electric water heaters. All areas are naturally ventilated using windows except the music classroom which has mechanical supply and extract air with heat recovery and DX cooling. The ducts are provided with sound attenuators to prevent noise breakout from the room as a condition of planning was that local residents should not be disturbed by the noise.
This project comprised the last in a series of major projects on the campus and drew all the threads together for provided up to date, standardised fire alarm, intruder alarm, data and voice structured networking with a fibre optic ring main providing the backbone for the structured cabling system.
